CONDITION:
The condition of your club grips is one of the most important factors in your ability to hit good golf shots. The grip is your only connection to the club. The feel of the grip, the texture, its size, the feedback you receive after impact can instill confidence or fear. If your grips are in poor condition or not properly sized to your hands it may cause you to squeeze too hard which can affect the flow of your swing and proper release of the clubhead through impact. Clubs may be re-gripped to restore the feel. To re-grip at set of clubs takes approximately 30-40 minutes.
Grips are available in different sizes, ladies, men’s standard, mid-size and jumbo. To determine if a grip is the proper size, the two middle fingers of your left hand (for right handed players) should just gently touch your thumb pad when you grip the club in your hand. If they dig into your thumb pad they are too small. If the gap between your two fingers and your thumb pad is more than one half inch, the grip is too large.
There are also grips for players with hand conditions such as arthritis. They are generally larger in diameter and a very soft material to absorb the shock of impact. It’s best to have a professional who knows your game assess the right grip for your condition. There are two excellent grips that will help players with hand conditions. One is called the Chamois Grip. The other is called Jumbo Max. Both these grips have excellent feel and shock absorption.
Other grips that I recommend are the Golf Pride Multi-compound and the Winn Dri-Tac. They all are available in different sizes. When you bring your clubs to your lessons I will assess the grips. Clubs are re-gripped for next day unless we have to place a special order.
CLUB REPAIR
No matter how much you paid for your clubs they all may break. The most common repair we perform is re-shafting. Most breakage occurs in clubs with graphite shafts. The breaks occur most often in the department store quality clubs simply because of the quality. Some shafts that are installed in those clubs are manufactured for about $3.00 each. Most of the good quality brand name clubs can have shafts in them that can cost up to $300.00 just for the shaft.
Changing a shaft in club can very much affect or change the ball flight. If a player is hitting the ball too high, low, or slicing, a shaft change can remedy those problems. It can be a factor of flexibility, amount of torque in the shaft or the flex point. It is important to work with a knowledgeable professional to best determine which shaft is right for you.
Club heads coming loose from the shaft is also a common defect that can occur regardless of the brand or price of the club. Today’s club heads are attached with a 2000 pound strength epoxy. Regardless they still can come loose.
We offer quality repairs at very competitive prices;
We perform; Re-shafting, loft & lie, adjustments, swing weight adjustments, length change, swing speed measurements and re-gripping.
